Help Keep Rottingdean Library Open
Rottingdean Library, based in The Grange, is a vital hub for our community. It serves people of all ages and backgrounds, providing children with an early love of books and learning. With two nurseries and two primary schools close by, the library is an important resource for local families.
When Brighton & Hove City Council (BHCC) announced plans to shut three of its fifteen libraries, local parent Sarah Craven-Antill launched a petition to protect Rottingdean’s branch. Alongside the online petition, a paper version was made available outside the library so that everyone could take part. The response was so strong that the Save Rottingdean Library group was formed to raise awareness and represent local voices with BHCC, the Parish Council, and Rottingdean Heritage.
The council’s consultation on closure is now underway. Proposed alternatives, such as travelling to Saltdean or relying on home visits, are unrealistic for many residents -from young families to older or disabled users.
