Gather Rubbish and Bag it!
The Deans Volunteers has been running for ten years, and organises monthly beach cleans on the first Sunday of every month from 11am-12.30pm to clean the beaches across the Deans (Rottingdean, Saltdean, Ovingdean). We rotate between the beaches meaning that each beach gets cleaned at least once a quarter (we do organise ad hoc cleans from time to time, either to support community groups, other environmental causes like Surfers Against Sewage or corporate CSR days).
Our cleans for the rest of the year are scheduled as follows:
5 May Ovingdean
2 June Rottingdean
7 July Saltdean
4 August Ovingdean
1 September Rottingdean
8 October Saltdean
3 November Ovingdean
1 December Rottingdean
All equipment is provided or people are welcome to bring their own. More information can be found on Facebook here or you can email: thedeansvolunteers@gmail.com.
Post from 10th March:
GRAB’s amazing volunteers weren’t going to let a little bit of rain stop them from getting rid of #oceanlitter from #Rottingdean beach today. More than 45 superstars spent the morning finding and removing almost 52kg of pollutants from the beach. Thanks to everyone who joined us – you rock!
Thanks to the amazing Steve from Anglers National Line Recycling Scheme we were able to recycle almost half of the finds, from line and rope to plastics, glass and even polystyrene. Thanks so much for your support.

You’ll see our flag on the beach at but do keep an eye on our Facebook page in the morning in case of postponement due to weather conditions!
